The “40 Miles Award” is an award from the Right Eminent Grand Commander of the Lone Star Grand Commandery of Texas (PHA), and is the highest award that any Sir Knight may receive. It is akin to the “Norris Wright Cuney Award,” which is the highest award that any Master Mason in Texas may receive from the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Texas. The 40 Miles Award is given to a deserving Sir Knight who demonstrates a passion for the Order of Knighthood through his work. The Grand Commander usually awards one Sir Knight each year, but may, at his discretion, award more than one Sir Knight in a year if he feels it is necessary. Beginning in the year 2013 with its first recipient, Sir Ivory Johnson, Jr., Honorary Past Grand Commander (deceased), below are the recipients of this distinguished honor.
